ANSWER: The invoicing system uses the address that you have registered with FolioStop. If you update your address, you will be able to print off your invoices with the new address in the header.

To update your registered address, please log in to MyAccount and go to the MyDetails page https://myaccount.foliostop.com/mydetails

Once you have made this change, go into MyInvoices, where you can select your invoices and print off each one, now with the new address details.

Preview functionality is not yet available however in is in our development schedule for 2011. We are planning a system where you can work on entirely separate versions of your site independently, and publish the live version only when you are completely happy with the whole site, not just a page.

Drystan on "Can I remove the white background from my logo?"

FolioEdit allows you to apply special 'blend modes' to your logo and any other foreground, content, or background graphics.

In the case you describe, setting the blend mode to 'Multiply' for your logo will effectively remove the white from your logo. Actually what it does is allow the colours behind to show through the white parts of the logo.

Please note, however, that blend modes are not available in the html or mobile versions of your site, so your logo will show with the white parts as usual in those versions of the site.

If you have access to an image editor such as Photoshop or Fireworks, you can remove the white part using one of these programs, and then upload this new source image (with the white part removed) so it displays consistently across all site versions.

If you don't have access to one of these image editors, you can make use of the FolioStop design service, email us your logo at support@foliostop.com.
You can read more about this service and pricing at http://www.foliostop.com/affordable-web-design

When FolioEdit first opens, it checks the server to see if there is an update to the software. If there is an update, it automatically installs the update on your computer. (It is important to install the update whenever there is one because changes to the system might mean old versions of FolioEdit will not work properly any more).

When FolioEdit auto-updates, the login box disappears, and an Adobe AIR window may pop-up asking your permission to install the update. You need to confirm this before the update can proceed. Depending on what other program windows are open at the time, you might not immediately see this dialogue box so check your task bar for flashing tabs!

Once the update has installed, you will be able to login in the usual way.

This functionality is not built in to FolioStop as such, however there is the functionality to add custom Flash animations to your site.

These custom Flash animations can easily do things like follow the mouse. In fact, the creative potential for things like this with FolioStop is considerable.

In FolioStop, favicons are added using links to real images. This works fine in most browsers, but Internet Explorer requires that a file named favicon.ico is present in the root of the website.

Due to the way the FolioStop system works, this is not really possible, so unfortunately you will find that your favicon works in all other browsers but not IE.

The standard text pages are just that, text only. If you want to add images to a page you need to use a MultiMedia page. In a MultiMedia page you just click the ADD IMAGE button at the bottom of the multimedia page editor.

Even if you are only adding one image, it creates an image gallery holder, so you can add more images to this later if you want to create a gallery.

If you need to move the image up or down on the page, you can click the up / down buttons on the image holder and this will move the image holder above or below chunks of text.

If you need to add an image into the middle of an existing bit of text, you should cut and paste the text as necessary.

You add a graphic as a foreground image and then turn it into a link. To do this, first add the graphic to the foreground layer, and once saved, Preview the layer and in the Properties window set it to be a link (at the bottom). You can enter any url you need to link to.
You can use any graphic and you can link to any site. There are loads of freely available icons that tou can ue for Facebook / Twitter / Linked In/ YouTube, just do a quick search in Google images.

Answer: before you can create links to files (PDF, Word, etc) on your site, you need to upload the file(s) to your site File Repository.

In FolioEdit, select the "FILES" tab, and click "ADD" to upload a file. You can rename the file whatever you like. Make sure you save changes.

Once you have saved the file to your site, you can then create a link to it from any text page, multimedia page, or foreground image. Simply click on "ADD/EDIT LINK", and in the pop up select the FILES tab and select the file you want to link to.

Drystan on "I can't install Adobe AIR - "an error occured while installing adobe air""

FolioEdit is a desktop application that runs in Adobe AIR. As part of the installation process, Adobe AIR needs to be installed before FolioEdit can be installed and run.

If there is a problem with the installation of Adobe AIR, this will prevent the installation of FolioEdit.

Please take a look at Adobe's dedicated page that tackles possible installation issues with Adobe AIR http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403150.html

One thing that appears to be quite a common issue is an old version of AIR may be interfering with the new installation. To check if this is the problem, look to see if AIR is already installed on your computer, and if it is, un-install it. Then you will be able to run the FolioEdit installation from scratch.

On a MAC:

Go to Finder and then Applications/Utilities
You should see Adobe AIR uninstaller
Double click this to un-install AIR

On Windows:

Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Open the Add or Remove Programs panel.

Select Adobe AIR to remove the runtime.

We have had some reports of this behaviour, it is an issue with Internet Explorer 8. The "My Account" site uses session cookies to keep you logged in. Internet Explorer 8 sometimes drops this session unexpectedly when it opens a new tab, and hence it automatically logs you out (even as you are loggin in). This issue is restricted to IE8 and it only happens to some users with this browser.

If you are having trouble with this issue, I would recommend using another browser such as Firefox, Safari or Chrome, all of which are free to download and only take a moment to install. Internet Explorer 7/8 are full of bugs such as this.

Answer: It can take up to 2 weeks or more before Google or any other search engine will list a new domain name in its search results.

You can help speed this along by letting Google know your new site exists. Simply go to http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/?continue=/addurl and follow the instructions!

Google may also find your site more quickly if you have some links from other existing websites pointing to your new site. Posting a link from a forum you may be a member of can be a quick way to do this. Remember though, make sure your forum post is relevent and not simply shameless self promotion!

Layouts
FolioStop websites use pre-defined layouts to structure the main elements on the page. In addition to being able to choose from a variety of layouts, you can customise all of the colours, fonts, and text sizes. Of course you can have whatever page structure you want in your menu, and you can have an unlimited number of pages.

Page Styles
Within each layout, you can also choose different page styles for each page on your site. There are a variety of different galleries styles to choose from, and you can have thumbnails, number lines, or arrows to navigate your galleries. There are different text page styles to choose from, and you can choose different floating mp3 player styles.

Graphics and Animation
You can get seriously creative when it comes to background images and animations. You can add as many images as you like to your background layer, content area, and foreground layer. You can easily position these images or animations where ever you like on the screen, and even apply effects such as transparency, blendmode, rotation, and tiling. With well chosen animations, you can really bring your website to life and ensure that it looks completely different from any other FolioStop website. Have a look at http://foliostop.com/animationexample to get an idea of this.

Ongoing Development
The FolioStop team is developing new layouts and page components on an ongoing basis. The great thing about FolioStop is that you can chose to switch layouts any time you want (it only takes a second), so you can breath new life into your site and it won't cost you anything extra. Effectively FolioStop gives you access to as many different versions of your site as you want, so it will never get tired!

We endeavour on an ongoing basis to make FolioStop as user-friendly as we can, and we respond to user feedback by developing improved features regularly.

You certainly don't need to know anything about html, javascript, flash or any other web technologies. The need to know all of these specialist skills has been replaced with the need to know one thing only: how to drag and drop.

You will also need to know what a website is and have some knowlege of how to use your own computer. For example, you should know where to find images that you want to add to your site. Beyond these standard computer skills, all the tricky stuff is taken care of.

Your main task will be to decide what pages you want to have in your website. Then you can just drag and drop pages into the menu to create and re-order them. Adding content to pages is also as simple as dragging images from your computer into a gallery window.

We make it easy to create colour themes with our set of pre-defined themes on offer.

You may decide that you want a nice looking background image for your site, but do not know how to find or create one. We are here to help in this case and we provide a totally optional design service which you can request once you have signed up for the Free Trial.

FolioStop has been designed so that people with no web building skills whatsoever can use it to create a great looking website. You do not need to know anything about html, javascript, Flash or any other web technologies.

Unfortunately, not at present. FolioStop is principally involved in making it easy for customers to create great looking websites, and there are already plenty of great email solutions available out there. However, we may well upgrade our services in future to provide email facilities so customers can have everything under one roof.

Meanwhile, if you have registered a domain name through FolioStop and you want to get an email address at this domain name, you have two options:

1) You can transfer the domain to another registrar that provides email services.
2) You can setup email with a service like Google Apps (http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en-GB/business/gmail.html) and then point your email (mx records) to Google Apps.

For either option please set-up your email with the email provder and when you know the settings you need to make to your domain name please email support@foliostop.com with the changes you require.

FolioStop websites automatically have multiple versions, so as to provide the vistor with the best possible experience.

Flash version
If a visitor has Flash installed, they will see the Flash version by default. However they can click a link in the footer to view the html version instead.

Html version
If the visitor does not have Flash installed, they will automatically see the html version of the site. The html version looks very similar to the Flash version of the site, only some of the features are restricted in the html version. For example Flash animations will not display in the html version.

Mobile version
If a visitor is viewing the site on a mobile phone, they will automatically see a mobile optimised version of the site by default, though they can click a link in the footer to view the normal html version. The mobile version does not attempt to re-create the look of the normal site, instead it is stripped right back for quick loading and viewing of text pages and image galleries, and to make best use of the scrolling functionality on mobile phones.

FolioStop websites are optimised so that your content is indexible by search engines. This helps to get your site listed in Google and other search engine results.

There are many factors which affect the positioning of your site in search engine results. It is important that the content of your website is relevent to the search phrase, and links to your site from other websites are also very important.

FolioEdit, the editing tool for building your FolioStop website, provides you with the means for setting page titles, keywords and descriptions. Setting these fields with suitable entries will also help your search engine positioning.
